77 Magical Fantasy Authors!

Julian Adorney

I’m a writer and an adventurer, and for me those have always gone together. I’ve played soccer with strangers at 5am. I’ve climbed 14ers and thought I was going to die from cold. I’ve fallen in love, an adventure unlike any other. I’ve done a lot of stuff where I didn’t know what I was doing, and sometimes it even worked out.

Life’s an exploration, and I want to explore as much as I can. And that’s what you’ll find in The Dragon’s Curse. Life off the beaten path is scary, but it’s also wonderful.

Jordan Altman

Jordan Altman is a Geologist who has worked from the Land of the Midnight Sun to the Canadian Shield. Recently taking up creative writing, his adventures within reality are now being matched by those of his imagination.

Nicolette Andrews

Nicolette Andrews born and raised in San Diego CA. She currently resides with her husband, two daughters a dog and a cat. She enjoys reading a good fantasy novel with heavy doses of magic and intrigue. When she's not reading or writing, she likes to take advantage of the San Diego sunshine by walking and hiking. Or on occasion trying her hand at gardening.

Charlotte Henley Babb

Charlotte Henley Babb writes comic fantasy for women of a certain age. Where are the fairy tales for those of us who are survivors of marriage, bankruptcy, parenthood and other passges of life? Charlotte writes them.

Charlotte began writing when she could hold a piece of chalk and scribble her name–although she sometimes mistook “Chocolate” for “Charlotte” on the sign at the drug store ice cream counter.

When her third-grade teacher allowed her access to the fiction room at the school library, Charlotte discovered Louisa Alcott and Robert Heinlein, an odd marriage of the minds. These two authors have had the most influence on her desire to share her point of view with the world and to explore how the world might be made better by laughter and insight to the foibles of magic and fantasy

Elizabeth Baxter

I've been a bookworm since I was five years old. The first book I ever read was about a boy going shopping with his mum. I picked it up from my brother's bedroom floor and suddenly those strange shapes on the page made sense. I could read! Hallelujah! I was soon working my way steadily through the school library and it wasn't long before I realised that stories about dragons, elves and great big talking lions were by far the most interesting. And that was it, my obsession with fantasy fiction was born.

When I’m not writing I enjoy playing tennis (badly), playing the guitar (very badly) and watching cricket whenever I can. I’m also intent on cramming as much world travel as I can into one lifetime. Funny, but my list keeps getting longer. You can never see it all can you?

Autumn M. Birt

Autumn Is an indie author, conservationist, & world traveler with plans for many more adventures both real and fantastical! She published Born of Water, the first book in her epic fantasy trilogy the Rise of the Fifth Order in 2012. Rule of Fire, book 2, was released in June of 2013 and the final book, Spirit of Life, was released in May of 2014! Her next WIP is a change of pace from epic fantasy. Friends of my Enemy is a near future military dystopian scifi mashup. Don’t worry, it isn’t all dark, having a dash of romance thrown in. After all, it’s no fun when everyone dies and no one falls in love! The first in its cycle of ten short stories leading up to three novels is being released now. You can learn more about it, and her many other writing projects, on Autumn’s blog and website

L. Blankenship

L. Blankenship started writing animal stories as a kid and it's just gotten completely out of hand since then. Now she's out publishing her gritty fantasy and hard science fiction adventures. L grew up in New Hampshire but currently lives near Washington, DC.

H. L. Burke

Born in a small town in north central Oregon, H. L. Burke spent most of her childhood around trees and farm animals and always accompanied by a book. Growing up with epic heroes from Middle Earth and Narnia keeping her company, she also became an incurable romantic.

An addictive personality, she jumped from one fandom to another, being at times completely obsessed with various books, movies, or television series (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Star Trek all took their turns), but she has grown to be what she considers a well-rounded connoisseur of geek culture.

Married to her high school crush who is now a US Marine, she has moved multiple times in her adult life but believes home is wherever her husband, two daughters, and pets are.

Katri Cardew

I live in outback Australia with my large Dogue de Bordeaux. My focus is on magical fantasy and romance novels.

Robin Chambers

In the 1970s I wrote my first fantasy and magic stories - "The Ice Warrior and Other Stories" - which were published by Penguin.  This book of short stories was followed by two other books in the same genre, published by Granada (my Penguin editor at the time had moved to Granada Publishing).
After a professional lifetime in education, I am now writing a very long magical fantasy story "for bright children between the ages of 10 and 110" with the over-arching title "Myrddin's Heir".  The first five books - Book 1: "A Wizard of Dreams, Book 2: "Amazing Grace", Book 3 "The Quality of Mercy", Book 4: "Gifts from the Gods" and Book 5: "When the Cat's Away..." - are now in the Amazon Kindle Store at 99p per copy.
Clearly this is one of the best bargains currently to be had in the literary universe.

Gregory S. Close

Gregory S. Close has lived on both coasts of the United States (and that wholesome corn-fed part in-between) as well as Dundalk, Ireland and the tiny islands of the Kwajalein Atoll.

Greg loves travelling and sampling the native cultures, foods, customs, and beers of the world. Greg is married to a rocket scientist and lives in California with his two daughters, a cat, and one and a half dogs.

Craig Comer

Craig Comer is the author of the gaslamp fantasy novel THE LAIRD OF DUNCAIRN and co-author of the mosaic fantasy novel THE ROADS TO BALDAIRN MOTTE. His shorter works have appeared in several anthologies, including BARDIC TALES AND SAGE ADVICE and PULP EMPIRE VOLUME IV. Craig earned a Master’s Degree in Writing from the University of Southern California. He enjoys tramping across countries in his spare time, preferably those strewn with pubs and castles.

Mike Cooley

I have been writing science fiction and fantasy stories for many years. My writing has an edge to it. I enjoy exploring the dark and surreal landscapes of the mind. The first novel in my Legend of the Crystals fantasy series is out now (Crystal Warrior), and the second book (Crystal Origin) will be out in July 2012. I also have a science fiction short story collection out called Skin Of Giants, a Twilight Parody called How To Keep Sparkly Emo Vampires Off Your Lawn, and a poetry book called End Of The World Love Songs.

Peter Cruikshank

At an early age I was introduced to Robert Heinlein's 'Stranger in a Strange Land' by a friend's father, an author, and then later I found JRR Tolkien & CS Lewis. I spent the next 40 years reading while waiting to publish my own tales.
Married 30 years to a beautiful woman, with three children grown into caring and sensitive adults, I have had a wonderful & challenged life's journey. The challenged part has helped form much of my view of the fantasy world that I now write about. My career has stretched from a taxi driver to a Chief Scientist to everything in-between.
I believe stories are all about the depth of characters and what befalls them - the movement from start to end and the adventure in-between. How some fail and others rise above their own expectations. As the Dragon-Called Legend tells us - Be True to Your Fire Within!

Harrison Davies

Harrison Davies (1973 - ) was born in Hartlepool in the United Kingdom. He now resides in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North of England. His passions include the written word, visual media such as indie filmmaking, and photography. He lives with his long time partner, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and African Grey Parrot. Harrison completed his second book in early 2012.

Anthony DeRouen

Anthony began writing short stories and fan fiction in 2008. He has written three as of yet unpublished novels in the A Show for the Gods series: Precipice, Diviner, and End of Dreams. A treatment for the fourth and last installment is entitled Burn the Sky.

In 2009 while drafting a fantasy article for a friend’s gaming website he fell love with the concept of a battle healer who defends a country not her own against sinister forces bent on releasing a terrible power. A number of plot lines were developed along with how the world would appear at the height of its economical and political strength in the beginning, and then deteriorate as events unfolded.

Danika Dinsmore

Danika Dinsmore works in speculative fiction with an emphasis on juvenile and young adult literature. She currently teaches creative writing, imaginary world building, dystopian fiction, and other subgenres of speculative fiction. The first book in her children's fantasy series (Brigitta of the White Forest) was released in 2011 and the second book (The Ruins of Noe) was released in May 2012. She is working on the third novel in the series (Ondelle of Grioth) as well as a YA pop space opera (Interglactic) and a YA dystopian love story (Silk Rivers of the Moon).

Ava Donja

Ava is an avid reader, writer, blogger, and gamer. She lives in Southern California and would love the beach if it wasn’t for all that sand. Mind, Body, and Spirit is her first fantasy romance ebook.

Dakota Douglas

I’m a retired newspaper reporter from the North East of England, following my childhood dream of being a novelist. As a kid I read books under the bedclothes by torchlight. Now I dive under the bedclothes, torch in hand, to scribble down conversations between my nutty book characters in case I forget them in the morning. I’ve written stories since I was about eight years old. I wrote them on a toy typewriter and my dad did the illustrations. All sadly lost down the decades. I drafted my first novel about 10 years ago but had to give it up because of pains in my hands and wrists…Repetitive Strain Injury. I retired last year and have just published my first novel, a children’s fantasy called ANTics, based on a dream about ants.
